Dozens of South Africans acquire international digital skills certification

Fifty South Africans in the business and ICT spaces have earned digital skills certificates from a collaboration between the US Boston College and Digital Skills Global (DSG).

The certificates of competency covered a variety of fields including mobile development, data sciences, big data visualisation and more.

Boston College certifies these in partnership with Digital Skills Global, a company that works with universities to create competency programmes. Partaking in these allows a corporate workforce to upskill themselves resulting in employees which are internationally recognised for their new mastery. “Digital Skills Global has grown rapidly since its launch in Ireland in 2008, supporting online programmes in digital skills to Working Professionals from 33 countries, across six continents. Our leading edge programmes have been exceptionally well received in South Africa, where high-end digital skills shortages could slow digital transformation. To overcome the skills challenge, Digital Skills Global works with official local Corporate Partners such as MultiChoice, MTN South Africa, Standard Bank and Absa, both to train their professionals and to give participants an opportunity to work on digital innovation projects within their organisations,” says Paul Dunne, CEO of Digital Skills Global.

At a recent event in Sandton the South Africans receiving their certificates were joined by Heather Humphreys TD, Ireland’s Minister for Business, Enterprise, and Innovation. “Here we have an innovative Irish enterprise – DSG, working with a leading US university – Boston College, to connect with talented professionals from leading corporations in South Africa and supporting their drive to be truly world class digital businesses,” Says Humphreys.

On top of this conflux of countries Dunne also announced that more courses would be launched in South Africa in 2020. These include:

Other topics covered in addition to this will include AI Applications, AI for Business Professionals, Digital Marketing Strategies and more.
