The HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w: No cartridges, just printing

The need for a reliable, affordable and versatile printer is one every business knows. If you’re running things on your own from home, operating an SME from an office or even managing things in a big corporate, there’s always going to be the need to get things printed, and printed well.

Ticking all these boxes is the HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w, which comes with the massive claim that it’s the world’s first cartridge-free laser printer.

What this means is that, when toner runs low, you’re not buying a new cartridge, swapping in the old one, and throwing it in the trash. Not only does this process create an enormous amount of waste, but those cartridges usually contain integrated circuits which increases the price and the amount of resources going into the bin.

Instead the Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w uses what must be the best-named product in the printing world: the “toner reload kit”. This kit (which you can see with the printer in the header image above) resembles a large syringe which can be inserted into the machine to top up the toner levels.

While this sounds technical, it’s dead simple. There’s no need to call in a technician when toner levels get low, as this printer can be refilled by just about anyone with little fuss.

Even if that sounds intimidating, don’t stress as the Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w goes a very long time before you need to worry about refilling. Let’s get into some numbers from HP here: up to 5 000 pages can be printed before needing more toner, a black A4 first page out time of just 7.6 seconds, and a monthly A4 duty cycle of up to 20 000 pages.

While this printer can kick out thousands of pages per month, it can also hold 150 in its input tray, and print up to 100 pages into the output tray before you need to remove them and start on more. With a print speed of up to 20 pages per minute, you can fill that output tray rather fast.

With such solid specs when it comes to printing, you may think that’s all the HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w can do, but that isn’t the case. That “w” in the name refers to the fact that this printer can be used wirelessly, so you can print using the supported HP Smart app as well as other services like Apple AirPrint and Google Cloud Print.

There’s also the flatbed scanner with a resolution of up to 600 ppi. While phone scanning apps are great, there’s just no substitute for a flatbed when it comes to picking up absolutely all the features on a page. If you’re dealing with clients who always send over paper, and you prefer to work with those documents digitally, a flatbed is a must.

With competitive print pricing, easy refills, wireless capability and scanning covered too, the HP Neverstop Laser MFP 1200w is just about everything you need when it comes to paper.
