As 2019 draws to a close it’s time to reflect on the past 12 months. To that end a number of recaps, reviews and best of lists have begun doing the rounds, and the latest one comes from Spotify highlighting what local listeners enjoyed during the year.

This has become a bit of a recent tradition from Spotify ever since it launched in South Africa a couple of years ago, and globally as many as 248 million people made use of the music streaming platform.

This yearly recap, titled Wrapped by Spotify, saw Post Malone dominate in 2019 and being named the most streamed artist of the year. He was followed by the likes of Billie Eilish and Ariana Grande.

Shifting focus locally Khalid was the most streamed artist by South African Spotify users, with Post Malone and Drake coming in at second and third respectively.

Along with listing the top streamed artists, Spotify is also readying to roll out personalised playlists for users once again. Currently inactive, the platform’s Wrapped website will be populated with uniquely curated playlists in the coming days.
