The end of the year is fast approaching which means tech firms and websites are taking a look back at the year that was.

One such website is YouTube which is looking back at the top videos among South Africans in terms of video content and music.

The top videos are based on views, shares, comments and likes. While YouTube says that the top videos represent a shift in popularity from scripted entertainment to unintentional viral content we can’t help but scratch our heads at the fact that The Ellen Show was the number one video in South Africa. Granted, the segment in question features Trevor Noah playing “Who’d You Rather” but we’d much rather have seen a content creator that has found a home for themselves at the top of the charts.

The second most watched video in South Africa was, a dash-cam video. South Africans love dash-cam videos and the inclusion of “Wheel and Car Thief Syndicate Apprehended by NoJack Baby Beast – Assisted by The Avenger” signifies this. The video in question shows off why dash-cam footage is such a hit.

At the number three spot is our first actual content creator from South Africa in Lasizwe Dambuza. The creator’s skit showing off the difference between drive-thru lanes at KFC, McDonalds and Chicken Licken is hilarious and well worth a watch.

The remaining top 12 videos on YouTube as viewed by South Africans follow on below in order.

As you might notice, there is little music in that top 15 but YouTube has outlined the top 15 tracks streamed by South Africans using YouTube.
