Loadshedding upgraded to Stage 4 from 14:00 Friday

Eskom has upgraded the severity of the current loadshedding from Stage 2 to Stage 4 on Friday afternoon today.

Initially, Stage 2 was set to last from 09:00 on Friday morning until 06:00 on Saturday morning but the utility has since declared that 4 000MW of need to be shed from the national grid.

“For now, the prognosis is that we will implement stage 4 load shedding between 14:00 and 06:00 tomorrow. Should anything change, Eskom will advise consumers,” Eskom spokesperson Nto Rikhotso told Fin24.

Earlier today Eskom announced that unexpected breakdowns amount to 12 500MW missing from the grid resulting the need for loadshedding.

With this surprise upgrade we suspect that loadshedding will be with us for the foreseeable future. Perhaps somebody should tell Eskom that Black Friday was last week.
