iOS 13.3 update could bring more control of Screen Time for parents

Ever since Apple released iOS 13 a few months ago, the Cupertino-based firm has followed it up with a number of updates to refine the operating system and address any bugs.

The firm reportedly plans to release another update this week, iOS 13.3, which normally would not be important, but some interesting controls are coming the way of parents.

According to Vietnamese carrier Viettel, which created a page detailing what iOS 13.3 and watchOS 6.1.1 will entail, the updates are expected to roll out either on or before 11th December. More importantly the page explains that iOS 13.3 is adding the ability for parents limit access to contacts in Screen Time. As such you’d be able to specify who your children were talking to and during what times.

This feature would only apply to FaceTime, Messages and Voice Calls, but could prove helpful.

With the festive season around the corner, and most kids on holiday at the moment, ensuring that their engaging with their family face-to-face instead of staring at their screen all of the time might be a worthwhile feature for parents.

On the security side of things the update is also expected to add support for FIDO2 security keys. This would help facilitate password-free sign-ins, as well as removing memoji stickers from your keyboard, as Engadget points out.

As for whether a similar functionality will be ported to iPadOS and tvOS remains to be seen, but Apple will more than likely be aiming for a uniform experience across all its platforms so an update should be in the works.

With Apple adding a number of enhancements to iOS 13 of late, this is far from the late update it rolls out for the mobile operating system.
