[UPDATED]Stage 2 loadshedding persists on Monday and likely the week

UPDATE 09/12/2019

Shortly after this story was published Eskom announced that Stage 2 loadshedding would become Stage 4 loadshedding on Monday “due to additional loss of units at our power stations”.

We will continue to keep our readers informed should the situation change.

Original story

Loadshedding has been implemented since Thursday last week and it seems as if the rolling power cuts are here to stay for a while.

Eskom has said that Stage 2 loadshedding will continue on Monday up until 23:00. This follows Stage 2 loadshedding on Saturday and Sunday throughout the day.

While Eskom intended to cease Stage 2 loadshedding on Sunday, it appears as if the utility is taking one step forward and two steps back as regards unplanned breakdowns.

“We have lost additional units during the course of the day resulting in unplanned breakdowns increasing to 12 000MW as at 19:00,” Eskom wrote in a power alert on Sunday.

On Saturday Eskom said that it had reduced unplanned breakdowns to 11 000MW but it seems that figure has increased since Saturday morning.

The utility said that as a result of unplanned breakdowns, it was unable to conserve water and diesel and as such loadshedding is expected to persist throughout the week.

“At this stage there is a high probability of loadshedding until the end of the week,” the utility wrote.

We recommend our readers check their schedules online in order to plan out their weeks. For up to date information regarding the state of loadshedding we also recommend following Eskom’s official Facebook and Twitter channels.
