FNB expands Smart ID and passport services to Limpopo

For a few years now, Gauteng and Western Cape citizens who are also FNB customers have been able to apply for, and collect passports and Smart ID cards at FNB branches.

Today the bank has announced that this offering has been expanded and is available to citizens in Limpopo.

“We are thrilled to expand this convenient service to our customers in Limpopo. This collaboration and partnership with the Department of Home Affairs provides a great framework for improving access to essential services for communities,” chief executive of FNB Points of Presence, Lee-Anne van Zyl said in a press statement.

The offering will initially be available at the Burgersfort branch, making it the fifth branch FNB customers can visit to get their identification documents.

Customers will need to make a booking through the Department of Home Affairs’ eChannel. Once the booking is made customers will need to go into a branch for fingerprint validation. FNB says customers will be alerted via SMS when their documents are ready for collection.

“We remain committed to our partnership with the Department of Home Affairs and our ambition to expand this service nationally for all our customers to experience. We will be prioritising on rolling out this service to other provinces in the new year,” van Zyl added.

To date, FNB has issued 200 000 Smart IDs and passports.

“We are confident that the expansion into Limpopo will provide more customers with convenience by avoiding long queues when applying for their Smart ID’s and Passports,” said van Zyl.

Aside from Burgersfort in Limpopo, the following FNB branches are able to assist customers with Smart ID and passport applications.

  • Portside branch – Cape Town
  • Centurion Lifestyle branch – Centurion
  • Merchant Place branch – Sandton
  • Lynwood branch – Pretoria.
