Upgrade your notebook with a Seagate BarraCuda drive

File sizes have become enormous thanks to advances in software development, video, photography and even gaming.

Now more than ever storage has become vital and if you’re on the move, fussing with external drives that can fail because of an accidental fall are less than ideal. What folks really need is more storage for a notebook so that the need for external storage is left by the wayside.

This is where Seagate’s latest range of BarraCuda Compute drives come into play.

Boasting capacities of up to 5TB, the BarraCuda compute range has a drive that suits your needs.

The drives are in the longstanding 2.5inch form factor making them perfect for notebooks. There are even two variants in a 7mm and 15mm form factor so that the drive you need fits perfectly in your notebook.

All of the BarraCuda drives operate at 5 400RPM which means they should last a bit longer than faster 7 200RPM drives which often fall victim to the high ramp-up speeds over time. The lower RPM also means greater battery life when you’re away from a charger.

In terms of speed you can expect transfer rates of up to 140MB/s thanks to a SATA 6Gbps interface. The real star of the show here however is the load and unload cycles the BarraCuda range is capable of.

A load cycle is counted when a drive spins up, readying for operation. An unload cycle speaks to when a drive powers down.

Seagate’s BarraCuda drives are primed to deal with 600 000 load/unload cycles.

Something incredibly interesting to note about the BarraCuda range is Seagate’s use of QuietStep Ramp Load Technology. This solution limits the amount of noise an HDD makes when the head (which reads the data on a drive) enters the rest position when a PC goes into standby. Usually there is an audible click from notebooks which make use of an HDD.

The QuietStep Ramp Load Technology also reduces wear on the HDD, improving its overall longevity.

Without this technology active, most hard drives can only achieve 50 000 load/unload cycles.

Seagate’s BarraCuda drives for notebooks include a two-year limited warranty for your peace of mind.

Available in capacities ranging from 500GB to 5TB, contact Rectron South Africa today to find out more about how you can improve your notebook’s capacity, and reliability.
