Details for the Huawei P40 surface, including a massive 5 500mAh battery

If you thought things were winding down as 2019 nears an end, think again, as it’s already time to turn our attention to next year’s flagship phones. In the news this week is the Huawei P40, which is expected to debut early in 2020.

Providing some information on the device is tech device leaker Yash Raj Chaudhray, who revealed an image of the supposed Huawei P40 alongside its packaging and a number of specifications for the device.

Naturally the Chinese firm is yet to comment on the leaked information, and likely will not do so, but the moment we start seeing more leakers reveal information such as Evan Blass, then the rumoured specs will carry more weight.

According to Chaudhray the P40 will feature a 6.5″ 2K OLED display, but it’s unclear whether he is talking about the standard P40 or the Pro model, with the latter sporting the better specifications.

Other rumoured elements include a 120Hz refresh rate for the screen, a 98 percent screen-to-body ratio, and Leica-built penta-lens camera setup on the rear. Another interesting aspect is the battery onboard, which is said to be a mammoth 5 500mAh offering. If true it would easily be the largest smartphone battery we’ve seen to date, and no doubt delivers a full two days of battery life.

With Huawei excelling in that department of late, as well as rapid fast charging of said batteries, the firm may be setting a new benchmark that other manufacturers would find difficult to match.

We shouldn’t have to wait long to see the Huawei P40, with it expected to be revealed during MWC 2020, which is happening in late February next year.

Of more importance is whether the device will support Android, as it is the reason why we have not seen the Mate 30 Pro land in South Africa. With the P series helping setup Huawei for strong years in terms of sales in recent years, a failure to feature Android could prove a deal breaker for many.
