Now even racing game Forza Horizon 4 has a battle royale mode

Welp, it wouldn’t be 2019 if something ridiculous didn’t happen in the gaming industry before the year finally died, and today that’s Forza Horizon 4 adding in a battle royale game mode.

Called “The Eliminator”, this free update to the game is a 72-player affair and is live in the game from today as part of the Series 17 update.

This game features many of the expected tropes for this kind of event: a shrinking map, upgrades and a “only one will survive” win condition.

Instead of fighting over finding the best guns and armour, players are looking to be upgraded to the best cars, being magically transformed into new models as they go (as can be seen in the trailer below).

If you want to give the game a go just remember that it’s part of the Xbox Game Pass, so you can play it there without the need for an additional purchase. You may need to wait awhile to actually get into the game, however, as it’s a massive 74 gigabyte download on PC.

While you wait for the download there are some content creators who are already in the game, either by virtue of early access to The Eliminator or by virtue of their faster internet.

Forza is far from being the first vehicle-focused battle royale on the market. Games like Fractured Lands and Not My Car have been kicking around for ages. What makes The Exterminator different is the focus on racing and not fighting, as many of those aforementioned games are geared towards vehicle combat.

We’re sure there’s a few indie games out there which do the same thing, but this marks another big push into the battle royale genre from a well known brand.
