Samsung loves working with regular folks that create amazing content.

The firm has previously worked with the likes of vlogger Casey Niestat, musician Andrew Huang and now the firm can add students from Vega School to that list.

The South Korean manufacturer worked with Vega School to host a Design Jam where students were tasked with creating content that could be used as Samsung Galaxy themes. These themes – if selected – would go on to feature on the Galaxy Store.

“Samsung continuously supports South African artists and we believe that the country is rich in natural talent and look forward to promoting the work of these creative problem solvers and mavericks. Their skills echo our own pursuit of excellence – design that brings the world to life in innovative ways,” chief marketing officer at Samsung South Africa, Cambridge Mokanyane, said in a media statement.

Students in their second year of graphic design, copywriting, or digital design were invited to form teams of four. Over 400 students from all of Vega’s campuses in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Durban took part in the Design Jam.

Teams were give the open-ended brief “local is lekker” and tasked with creating wallpapers, icons and Always On displays.

Even if you don’t vote we recommend clicking the link above to discover the rationale behind the designs from the teams. Aside from being well thought out, they look awesome and we kinda want Team Fantastic 5’s design on our phone.
