After some missteps Phoenix Point is now on Xbox Game Pass for PC

Phoenix Point, a new strategy games from X-COM creator Julian Gollop and studio  Snapshot Games, is out now on Xbox Game Pass for PC subscribers after missing its launch window on the platform.

The game released on the Epic Games Store earlier this month where it was not supposed to be an exclusive, as it was slated to hit both Microsoft’s service as well as its store. As many clamouring fans found it, this did not happen.

A member of Snapshot explained what happened in a blog post on the game’s forums:

“The fact is we dropped the ball. We were exceedingly busy getting the game itself ready, and being inexperienced with Game Pass and the Microsoft Store, we simply had not properly prepared the groundwork to get the game released on time on these platforms. Compared to other platforms we’re on these platforms require a number of pre-requisites, from Microsoft certification to legal documentation review. While these are now mostly complete, they have given rise to a number of new delays.”

That post was made on 5th December, so it’s taken the studio about two weeks to work through those delays. At the time no ETA was provided as to when Phoenix Point would be available on those platforms, and now it has popped up today.

If you’re an Xbox Game Pass for PC subscriber (man they’ve got to make a shorter name for that) you should see your new game awaiting you for download in the “Recently Added” section of the main page.

If you’re tired of paying for subscription services, it is also available on the Microsoft Store to buy outright.

As the game was added so recently to the store there are no user reviews up yet, so you’ll have to rely on other types of reviews that went live around the original launch of the game.

We’re excited to dive in ourselves with the general consensus being that this heavily borrows from the newer XCOM titles by Firaxis, but with more complexity.
