The very specific cat communities of Reddit

Like most of the internet Reddit is rife with people sharing pictures of animals, but what sets this site apart is how specific users are in their communities.

As Reddit is built on the system of subreddits – smaller subsites each with a unique purpose – it’s no wonder that this has happened.

Cats seem to be the most popular in this regard with countless cat-specific subreddits existing. You could be on there for hours every day, as we are, without seeing a fraction of them.

Today let’s look at a few of them. We’re focusing on smaller, more obscure subreddits.

Click on the name of the community or the embedded post to check them out.

/r/CatsNamedToothless

No idea how to train him from r/CatsNamedToothless

A rather simple concept to start off with: cats that resemble Toothless from How To Train Your Dragon.

While it’s not required for submitted cats to actually be named Toothless, or for them to be dressed up as above, both those things do help.

/r/DrillCats

Nicely executed from r/DrillCats

This isn’t cats tweeting under the name wint, but rather pictures of cats which look like they’re trying to become a drill itself.

This usually happens when a cat sneezes or is caught in a picture while shaking its head, and it’s magnificent.

/r/Kitler

Missing Cat alert: Last seen in Poland. from r/Kitler

Why yes, that is a combination of the word “kitty” and “Hitler”.

This is for cats who have fur colouration or placement which looks like Hitler’s infamous moustache and / or comb over.

/r/CatsBitingThings

Mittens was understandably offended by the chair. from r/CatsBitingThings

Cats scratch and dogs bite, right? Most cat owners will tell you that this isn’t the case as those little devils love to shred stuff apart with their teeth too.

if you’ve ever had a dumb, lovable cat that bites everything in the house (including you), then this is the place to be.

/r/NotMyCat

Went back home to visit my mum… she does not own a cat! from r/notmycat

Ever heard someone tell the story of how their pet “adopted them”? This subreddit is for those moments where someone randomly comes into possession of a cat, and usually keeps it as their own.

This is also the place to share random, friendly encounters with cats, because who doesn’t like those?
