Intel ready to reveal new Ghost Canyon modular gaming PC

CES 2020 is about to officially get underway, which means there will be a flurry of announcements from manufacturers in the consumer electronics industry. American firm Intel also has an interest in the week-long event, and is readying to reveal new silicon among other things.

One of those other things is a new version of its diminutive modular PC – the NUC (Next Unit of Computing) – which is called the Ghost Canyon NUC. It’s also powered by up to a 9th Gen Intel Core i9 processor and capable of hitting up to 5GHz from a single core, based on what little information the firm has shared at this stage.

There are also i5 and i7 flavours, but it’s unclear how many GHz those variants can muster at this stage. Given that this will be a gaming-focused, those lower specced pieces of silicon may also be less favoured.

More detail and a full reveal is in the offing this week, with Intel already teasing the Ghost Canyon NUC for CES 2020 earlier today.

With users still required to add their own choice of RAM and GPU to the mix in order to get the Ghost Canyon humming, an interesting addition to this iteration is the ability to upgrade the processor down the line.

As such it would immediately increase the appeal for anyone who is indeed looking to go modular when it comes to their gaming setup and wanting to constantly upgrade.

For now it’s unclear how much the new unit will cost, or indeed when it would be available to purchase in South Africa, but for PC players who want a more portable option, it may prove worthwhile.
