The Sims jumps on the small house craze with ‘Tiny Living’ Stuff Pack

As only casual fans of The Sims at best we don’t pay much mind to every DLC Stuff Pack that comes out, but the latest one entitled “Tiny Living” is worth looking at.

As you may have guessed by the name the focus of this new content is throwing out the hopes of mansions and other giant living spaces in favour of much smaller accommodation.

Piggybacking off of the small home trend (which is an entire genre of TV at this point) Tiny Living plonks your Sims into a new residential lot that is 100 tiles in size.

It’s up the player to manage this space using items such as Murphy beds and couches which can double as storage.

One workaround, which is actually featured in the trailer below, is just to make multiple floors until you have yourself a personal skyscraper. A personal five floor home isn’t too impressive when you consider that each floor is the size of a single room, but we digress.

Tiny Living is available later this month on 21st January for PC. Those on the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 will need to wait a little longer as it will arrive on console come 4th February.

While you wait check out the dedicated Tiny Living page for a few more details about this Stuff Pack.

We won’t get into it here but many words can be wasted on the gamification of small living spaces which is a harsh necessity for many and not a trendy choice for wealthy people appearing on TV shows.

There’s also something to be said about The Sims, a series known for letting people live out their wild real estate fantasies, turning in the opposite direction here, and how that all fits into the broader economical fact about affording to keep a roof over your head, regardless of its size.

Maybe it’s the cynic in us but this Stuff Pack reminded us way too much of the much derided Monopoly for Millennials, which sported the infamous tagline of “forget real estate, you can’t afford it anyway”, but maybe that’s a reach.

There you go, we’ve given you a few essay topics to go wild with on Twitter or Medium about this digital toy.
