It is that time of the year again when Matric results have been released and learners begin preparing for their tertiary studies. That means getting the necessary reading materials from a bookstore like Van Schaik.
Perhaps it’s fortuitous then that the retailer has opened up four new locations across the country, with a specific focus on providing books for the local education market.
“In response to the growing demand for education, and the related need for textbooks and learning materials, Van Schaik Bookstore has expanded to four new locations, growing its footprint to 74 stores across Southern Africa plus an online store,” the retailer explained in a press release sent to us.
The new stores are located in Port Elizabeth, Middelburg, Fourways and Illovo. Van Schaik adds that the new locations are also all walk-in, self-help stores, as opposed to counter service stores that people may be familiar with.
“We decided to open the stores to service an identified demand from schools, colleges and UNISA students in these areas,” notes CEO Stephan Erasmus.
The product compilation for these new stores centres around textbooks for schools, UNISA students and businesses. Added to this they will stock stationery, PC and mobile device accessories, bags, headphones and a few more things that students would need.
“Van Schaik is attuned to the needs of the educational market. We are the oldest and largest educational retailer in South Africa, and we are responsive to the changing needs of the market,” says Erasmus.
“We keep booklists and by working with schools and tertiary institutions in advance we are able to predict the stock required for our various markets,” he adds.
