Temtem gets animated trailer and theme song

Over the past few weeks discussion around the game Temtem has been growing as it positions itself to be an indie competitor to Pokémon offering creature battling and collecting, albeit with much-request features such as an MMO shared world and lots of customisation.

Now, less than a day before its early access release, Temtem has a short animated trailer and theme song that looks more like the opening of a cartoon than a piece of marketing material.

The full trailer can be watched in the embed below which is curiously hosted on IGN’s YouTube channel and nowhere else. We understand wanting to use IGN’s larger channel, but the trailer isn’t even uploaded to Humble Bundle’s own YouTube channel. Humble Bundle is the publisher for Temtem and has been putting in a lot of work feeding the aforementioned discussion for this title, so it seems a bit odd.

Regardless the animation here was done by Sunshine Animation Studio from Madrid, Spain. Crema, the developer of Temtem, is also based in Madrid. The music here is credited to Damian Sanchez with vocals by Nicole Carino. It’s pretty good but the best videogame theme song (if that’s what we’re calling these) belongs to Flinthook.

As for what we see in the trailer it’s, as expected, an abstraction of what you can do in the game with the titular Temtem creatures and the world of the Airborne Archipelago around them.

If the video worked and you want to give it a go, there’s not long to wait now as Temtem will launch on Steam and the Humble Store in a few hours from the time of writing. The Steam page states that Crema is planning to have the game in early access until Q2 2021 or Q3 2021.

As much as we love Pokémon we truly hope that Temtem succeeds as a game on its own, and in shaking up this genre. While we liked Sword and Shield decently enough, there’s a general consensus that Game Freak has been playing it too safe for too long. Maybe some strong outside competition will be the kick in the backside Pokémon needs.
