LEGO asks you to vote on the Nebulon-B, TIE Bomber or Republic Gunship

In what is a welcome but surprising bit of news, LEGO is asking its community which of three famous ship designs it wants to be turned into a new set.

LEGO’s Ultimate Collector Series (UCS) is a small range of sets aimed more towards adults with lots of money to spend. These sets usually contain thousands of pieces and cost hundreds of dollars. The biggest set the company ever made – 75192: Millennium Falcon with 7541 pieces costing R13 999 – is part of the UCS line.

The three ships which have been put up for voting are all from the Star Wars franchise and include the Nebulon-B Escort Frigate, TIE Bomber and Republic Gunship.

Voting for this decision has already opened and will last until 30th January. The voting page can be found here, but note that it will require a LEGO account.

On top of making your choice here, the voting form will also ask you to type in answers to two questions. The first simply asks for a response to why you made the choice you did, and the second asks which minifigures you would like to see included.

Looking at the community response to this news over the past few hours and there seems to be strong support for the Nebulon-B and the Republic Gunship – the former as it has not been turned into a set before, and the latter because of a general love of the Clone Wars era.

There doesn’t seem to be much love for the TIE Bomber right now, but we won’t know which set wins until LEGO announces it at some unknown date.

As for why the company is looking to the community for this, it may be because of some past UCS sets which were not at all received well.

75098: Assault on Hoth and 75222: Betrayal at Cloud City came out in the last few years and were criticised for their high prices and lacking design. On top of this there was very little demand for these before launch.

While trusting the internet to make decisions for your company is never ideal, we do think this is a step in the right direction to, at the very least, ensure that there is some kind of demand for your product before you manufacture it.

If you need reminding of what these three ships look like, the reference images below should help:
