Yooka-Laylee demo goes live during Steam Lunar Sale

While Yooka-Laylee didn’t turn out to be the Banjo-Kazooie replacement that many people hoped for, the series is back with a 2.5D platformer which you can now play for free.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair launched in October of last year, and it now has a demo you can play for free on Steam.

The demo is notable for having no time limit, a variety of levels, and saved progress that will continue into the new game should you decide to purchase it.

Those who do buy it will be doing so at a discount, as the Steam Lunar Sale is now in swing. While the excitement of Steam sales has really died in recent years due to the lack of limited time discounts and more tempting offers on other storefronts, we always welcome the chance to get games for less.

Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair is 30 percent off and the original Yooka-Laylee from 2017 is even further discounted at 75 percent off.

As for the rest of the sales our advice is the same as always: go to your Steam wishlist and see which titles you’ve been waiting for have the deepest discounts.

As with many of the past sales there’s a new kind of limited currency you can earn and use to buy coupons for more games. The details of this are available here, but it’s the standard “buy games to earn discounts on other games” deal that we’ve seen many times in the past.

Visiting the sale page daily does get you free gifts, however, some of which contain that new currency (tokens) to buy coupons.

Circling back to Yooka-Laylee and the demo will be available on other platforms shortly. PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch owners will get it on 30th January, but those on Xbox One are left waiting. The date for the demo is set to “TBA”, so when it actually comes out is anyone’s guess.
