It looks like a certain PvP mode is coming to Destiny 2

Yesterday evening Bungie released a new patch for Destiny 2 that addressed a number of bugs. But the real meat of the update was squirreled away deep in the game’s API.

Data-mining has become as much a part of Destiny 2 as shooting various aliens in the face. At times the data mined can be misleading but other times it’s right on the money.

Take Bastion for example, the steps for the final quest to get that weapon were datamined long before the Corridors of Time even reopened.

So following delivery of patch 2.7.1 on Tuesday evening, the miners got to work and wouldn’t you know it, they found something interesting there.

Those who played Destiny back in the day will recall a player versus player (PvP) event called Trials of Osiris. This was followed by Trials of the Nine in Destiny 2 but it didn’t work as well and was widely regarded as inferior to the Trials of Osiris.

After what feels like a year of begging Bungie to bring Trials back in some form, it seems the community is getting its wish.

So now we know the next season will be dubbed Season of the Worthy but more interestingly it seems as if Trials of Osiris will be locked behind a paywall.

This is a good thing because since Destiny 2 went free-to-play the number of cheaters has increased dramatically. Locking the high-risk, high-reward nature of Trials of Osiris behind a paywall then is a good idea.

Trials of Osiris gave players a way to earn some of the best weapons in the game and (what we consider) some of the coolest looking armour sets we’ve seen in the game.

Of course, getting that loot meant winning nine games in a row which is not easy at all.

It’s unclear at this stage whether Trials of Osiris will take the same format it did in Destiny. We are hoping that Trials of Osiris brings with it improvements to PvP in general because as it stands that game mode is rather stale.

Given that we were only told about Season of Dawn one week before it’s release, we suspect we won’t hear about the so-called Season of the Worthy and Trials of Osiris until mid-February.

Until then we’ll be working on our PvP skills because if Bungie is releasing a season based on that game mode, we need practice.
