Desktop Goose brings the Untitled Goose Game shenanigans to your PC

Have you ever thought back fondly on Clippy and BonziBuddy, but wished they were both even more annoying and avian? Now thanks to the work of Sam Chiet there is Desktop Goose, which brings the chaos from Untitled Goose Game to a computer near you.

Desktop Goose is intentionally distracting software that will randomly pull your mouse cursor around, drag images onto the screen, leave you messages in Notepad and more. All of this is accompanied by an animated goose that walks around your screen leaving dirty tracks everywhere.

If you’ve not played Untitled Goose Game, or have somehow not seen the endless content from the title, it is an indie game from last year in which you play as a goose terrorising a small village of people.

While the goose is a malevolent force both in the game and this piece of fan software, it’s still lighthearted fun and the irritation is part of the joke.

Desktop Goose is a free piece of software that Chiet has made available on itch.io.

Chiet has also offered content creators the opportunity to make custom versions that will “be more antagonistic towards gameplay”. Given how popular it is to make streamers suffer by way of in-game Twitch integration, we can imagine that will be funny to watch.

People on twitter have already been messing around with Desktop Goose in the last few hours that it’s been out. A popular game seems to be trying to “catch” the wondering goose with circles in MS Paint.

If you’ve not had the chance to try it yet, maybe because you don’t want to install it on your work PC like us, Chiet has left the software running on his own machine for 30 minutes, resulting in the image seen above.

He’s also put together the video below as a sort of trailer for what his creation can do.
