Eskom warns loadshedding may be implemented on Thursday evening

Here we go again folks, loadshedding, or rather the threat of loadshedding as returned.

Early on Thursday morning Eskom issued a power alert warning that there is a risk of loadshedding on Thursday evening.

“The power system is under stress this morning and we are using diesel generator to meet demand. The units that were expected to comeback from maintenance were delayed, which led to diesel generators being used overnight,” explained the power utility.

Eskom says that it has adequate emergency reserves to supplement capacity during the day. The downside to this is that we may experience loadshedding on Thursday evening.

The utility said that unplanned outages were at 13 063MW up from 12 620MW on Wednesday.

“We are continuing with our planned maintenance schedule while our teams are also working around the clock to bring back on line units that experienced breakdowns. Keeping generation below 9 500MW is part of a plan to manage our ageing fleet and bring stability back into the power system,” said Eskom.

We recommend following Eskom’s social channels (Twitter and Facebook) for updates throughout the day and checking your schedules just in case.

We also highly recommend downloading EskomSePush for your Android or iOS smartphone.
