Following warnings that it may implement loadshedding on Thursday, Eskom has dropped the hammer on South Africa.
Stage 2 loadshedding will be in effect from 21:00 on Thursday evening until 06:00 on Friday morning following a power alert from Eskom.
The utility said that loadshedding needed to be implemented due to system constraints and its “depleting emergency resources”.
“We have been using pumped storage schemes and open cycle gas turbines extensively over the past few days in order to supplement capacity and we need to replenish these overnight,” wrote Eskom.
Eskom said that unplanned outages were slightly reduced at 12 683MW as of 13:30 on Thursday afternoon.
As always we suggest checking your schedules and making use of the EskomSePush app for Android and iOS.
