Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser is leaving the studio

The man behind some of the most iconic games in the industry and one half of the pair that founded Rockstar Games is leaving the firm.

This is according to a Take-Two Interactive notice filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission in the US.

“After an extended break beginning in the spring of 2019, Dan Houser, Vice President, Creative at Rockstar Games, will be leaving the company. Dan Houser’s last day will be March 11, 2020,” reads the notice.

“We are extremely grateful for his contributions. Rockstar Games has built some of the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful game worlds, a global community of passionate fans and an incredibly talented team, which remains focused on current and future projects,” Take-Two Interactive added.

As for Sam Houser, the other half of the Rockstar Games founders, he will reportedly remain with Rockstar Games in the same role according to Polygon.

Dan Houser was the lead writer for Grand Theft Auto 5 as well as Red Dead Redemption 2 among many other Rockstar Games titles.

But the co-founder also courted his fair share of criticism and controversy. The most recent example of this was Houser’s statement that teams were working close to 100-hour weeks to complete Red Dead Redemption 2.

This prompted the gaming industry to address the issues of crunch and the issues that go along with it.

Following the news of Houser’s departure, Market Watch reported Take-Two Interactive’s share price dropping by 5.5 percent.
