Humble Bundle introduces regional pricing, South Africa excluded

Humble Bundle, the game sale platform famous for its charity work and bundles, has introduced regional pricing for eight new types of currencies. Unfortunately, at this time, South Africa is not one of those eight.

“Today, Monday, February 10, 2020, we’re making purchasing more consistent across our store, bundles and Humble Choice by introducing regional pricing for all of our bundles,” the platform states in a blog post published a few hours ago.

These currencies are now supported for the purchasing of bundles:

  • Euro (EUR)
  • Great British Pound (GBP)
  • Canadian Dollar (CAD)
  • Australian Dollar (AUD)
  • New Zealand Dollar (NZD)
  • Turkish Lira (TRY)
  • Russian Ruble (RUB)
  • Phillippines Peso (PHP)

While it may seem a bit self-centred to expect regional pricing for a country as small as ours, South Africa actually got regional pricing on places like Steam ahead of many other countries and currencies. For example: rands were supported on Steam from November of 2015, and Australian dollars didn’t receive the same treatment until November of 2018.

We, however, may be lucky that we still need to shop on Humble Bundle in US dollars. Some commentors have stated that they are now paying more in their home currencies compared to converted US dollars.

Regional pricing, when done correctly, is supposed to adjust prices of products to suit the market and the buying power therein. This usually means an overall decrease in price as very few markets hoover up as much product as the US. This is what we saw when rands where added to Steam, but that doesn’t seem to be the case here.
