Samsung unveils Galaxy Buds+, like its old buds but better

Like many of the devices leaked before tonight’s Galaxy Unpacked event, we knew that Samsung was working on a new pair of wireless earphones to launch alongside the Galaxy S20 trio of phones and foldable Galaxy Z Flip.

Those new wireless earphones are called the Galaxy Buds+, and Samsung has not done a complete overhaul, but rather a refinement of specific elements on its first iteration of Buds.

The sound yielded by the Galaxy Buds+ is handled by AKG, which makes sense as the audio specialists have been tuning the standard earphones that come in the box for most Samsung flagship phones in recent years.

Along with the AKG tuned sound, the new earphones feature a two-way speaker system, with a tweeter and woofer now present. The result is a more balanced sound according to Samsung, but we’ll have to test them out ourselves to see if the claim holds true.

Other enhancements include three mics, two external and one internal, to better capture the wearer’s voice when making and taking calls. This as the system on the Galaxy Buds+ isolate the sound of your voice and lessen background noise.

The other noteworthy improvement here is the 11 hours of battery life thanks to the 85mAh battery onboard. When coupled with the charging case, the listening time doubles up to 22 hours. There’s also quick charging functionality to deliver 60 minutes of listening from only three minutes of charge time.

The last element to mention is compatibility, with the Galaxy Buds+ capable of pairing with iOS devices along with the expected Android options.

No precise launch date or price for the Galaxy Buds+ at this stage, but we expect them to be available alongside the new Galaxy S20 range and Z Flip, with the latter anticipated in March. Also no word on whether bundled pre-orders will be on offer, but that information should be forthcoming later this week.
