No loadshedding for second day in a row

Things appear to be looking up at Eskom as the utility has said there is no loadshedding expected on Thursday.

With loadshedding having been a frequent feature this year, a slight reprieve now and then is welcome.

Eskom has said that its unplanned outages and breakdowns were at 9 462MW as of 06:00 on Thursday morning. Several units were returned to service this week that have made it easier to keep the lights on.

“In addition, emergency reserves are at adequate levels. However, we remind customers that loadshedding can be implemented at short notice if there is a change in the system performance. Eskom will communicate if there is any shift and will provide a prognosis for tomorrow later today,” said Eskom.

In that regard, Eskom has asked South Africans to use power sparingly and reduce demand as the system is still vulnerable.

It’s also worth remembering that while a break from loadshedding is good, it’s not permanent. Loadshedding is set to remain a feature in the lives of South Africans for at least the next 18 months.
