Unisa provides updates on payment & study material delays

After three delays the final day for first semester registration at the University of South Africa (Unisa) remains 17th February, and the institution has provided two updates around problems applicants have been experiencing.

The first is that of payments. For a registration at Unisa a minimum payment needs to be made. For the first semester of 2020 this day is also 17th February. Unfortunately many new and returning students are not having their payments reflect.

“We are aware that some students’ payments are not reflecting on their student accounts. We are working on this and hope to have all payments correctly allocated by 14 February 2020,” the university writes.

14th February is tomorrow, and just three days before registration ends, leaving little time for error here. As Unisa is not known for having the best time management skills, this does not bode well.

The next issue to address is that of physical study materials. While Unisa offers distance learning education that makes all its resources available online, it still ships out study guides and tutorial letters to all registered students each semester.

While this may seem redundant, many students either have no access or limited access to the internet, and can still study at the institution by way of physical correspondence. For them these paper documents are vitally important, and it’s just good to have these on hand especially with loadshedding being an ongoing concern in South Africa, at least for the next 18 months.

“Due to the strike action, there are delays in dispatching study material to students. We apologise most sincerely for this and assure you that we are working tirelessly to get all outstanding study material delivered as soon as possible,” Unisa adds.

This second statement leads to a further announcement page on the university’s website which can be read here. It offers links to track deliveries of study material as well as details around physical collection and the previously mentioned option of downloading the materials instead.
