Matt Reeves shares the love with first look at Robert Pattinson Batsuit

Over the past few weeks more information regarding the Matt Reeves-directed Batman film starring Robert Pattinson in the titular role has surfaced, with production on the project slated for 2021 having begun.

To date we’ve only seen paparazzi shots from the set, and a clapper board showing the logo for the film, but now Reeves has revealed the biggest titbit to date with a teaser of Pattinson in the cape and cowl.

The director took to Vimeo to share a screen test of sorts that showcases elements of the Batsuit, including the iconic bat symbol across the chest, as well as the cowl and Pattinson’s chin beneath it.

While we were sceptical of the casting choice for Bruce Wayne at first, this latest footage gives us cause for optimism, along with the fact that Pattinson’s acting has come a long way since his Twilight days.

Looking back at the footage, it appears as if Reeves has taken inspiration from a few different interpretations of the Batsuit.

The symbol, for example, seems to be machined from a gun, along with having parts that possibly flex when Batman suits, akin to the Arkham Knight iteration from the game. The gun detail is also quite interesting if true, as it could also be the same gun used to kill Wayne’s parents when he was a child. If so, it’s a great nod to the character’s lore.

There has also been talk that this Batsuit will feature white eyes like the fantastic animated series of the 90s, but no visuals for that yet. It’s also unclear what colour scheme is being used either, with the red lighting in the video below masking much of that detail.

While we do prefer projects like these save this kind of reveal for the finished film, seeing it now has certainly generated some buzz online, and should help calm any fears from critics of its development.

With Reeves at the helm we think The Batman is in good hands.
