Third day without loadshedding but system remains vulnerable

South Africans can expect a third day without loadshedding on Friday according to Eskom.

The utility hasn’t had to implement loadshedding since Wednesday of this week, but it has said that the system remains vulnerable.

“Unplanned outages or breakdowns were at 9 835MW as at 06:00 this morning and planned maintenance is above 7 000MW. As the system remains vulnerable, we remind customers that loadshedding can be implemented at short notice,” said Eskom in a power alert.

Eskom also said that while it has seen a number of improvements in its systems, unplanned outages have forced it to fall back on emergency reserves to supplement capacity for Friday.

It’s also worth remembering that loadshedding will be a feature in the lives of South Africans until at least July 2021.

For now though, enjoy the fact we have electricity but be sure to use it sparingly so as to reduce demand.
