The Witcher 3 on Switch now has PC cross saves

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt — Complete Edition for the Nintendo Switch just got update 3.6 with the big new feature included being save file integration with both Steam and GOG versions of the game on PC.

This change comes with a pair of caveats from the developers. Firstly modded games on PC might transfer over problems to the Switch, so if your version of the game on that platform is heavily modded you may want to reconsider moving your save over to the Switch.

Secondly if, for whatever reason, you have renamed your PC saves files, the Switch will not be able to recognise them.

The full list of changes for update 3.6 can be found below:

  • Added touch control support.
  • Added save file integration with GOG, Steam and versions of the game for Switch from different regions.
  • Added more text languages (in selected regions).
  • Added more graphical options.
  • Added multiple performance optimizations.
  • Fixed various visual and functional bugs.
  • Various gameplay and crash fixes.

The Witcher 3 joins a select few other titles such as Divinity: Original Sin 2 allowing those with both a gaming PC and Switch to share their saves.

Outside of this update 3.6 also brings some other changes above worth talking about. That “touch control support” is specifically mentioned for the card game Gwent, which should make it easier to play if you prefer your Witcher adventures to be taken up with a lot of TCG gameplay.

More graphical options and optimisation is also greatly appreciated as the game struggles to run on the Switch’s comparatively weak hardware. It’s still impressive that massive games like this can run on this mobile console, but any and all improvements in that regard are welcome.

Then there’s the usual slate of smaller fixes that you’ll hopefully never have to interface with in the form of small fixes and squashed bugs.
