Stage 2 rotational loadshedding returns until 6:00 on Saturday morning

It looks like the no loadshedding streak this week was short lived, as this morning (20th February) Eskom confirmed that rotational Stage 2 loadshedding will start at 9:00 today and is expected to end at 06:00 on Saturday (22nd February) morning.

As mentioned this week started off with three consecutive days without loadshedding, but each power alert that Eskom tweeted out always carried the warning that the likelihood of loadshedding being implemented again was high. This as the system remain constrained due to unplanned outages, the power utility explained.

In this morning’s power alert, featured below, Eskom notes that Stage 2 loadshedding was implemented as three additional power generating units were lost overnight.

Perhaps most frustratingly though, Eskom adds that there is a high chance that loadshedding continues over the entire weekend, so the 06:00 on Saturday timeline is an estimate at this stage. The reason for this is that Eskom may be required to replenish its energy reserves over the weekend, which means parts of the country will be without power as that process is carried.

It is still unconfirmed whether that will indeed happen, but a power alert either tomorrow or Saturday morning will likely lay out what is expected to happen.

For now we advise charging up whatever hardware or devices you need to for today, and check in with apps like Eskom Se Push to find out when you’ll be effected by Stage 2.
