Players have killed 36 billion zombies in five years of Dying Light

The excellent melee zombie game Dying Light is celebrating five years since its release back in January of 2015. To mark the occasion developer Techland has shared a bunch of interesting numbers about what players have been doing in its game all this time.

More than 18 million players have picked up Dying Light at some point in the last half decade, and combined they have spent 584 million hours in the game. According to Techland that’s 66 621 years.

As Dying Light has a strong parkour element you’d correctly guess that players are running around everywhere, so much in fact that 2.2 billion miles have been traversed.

Finally, the most impressive number to us is that 36 billion enemy zombies have been slain.

For those who have not played the game before this developer has provided constant free updates to the title despite the fact that it is not a free to play or “living” game. We imagine this has helped keep the game stuffed with players who have returned year after year to kill more zombies.

And, to continue that tradition, even more free content is coming out as part of the fifth anniversary.

As shown off in the trailer embed below, a full month of free content is coming to the game starting from a few hours ago on 20th February.

Various community events will be taking place this week in the game, along with lots of interesting tools to bump that 36 billion number even higher.

If you still haven’t played this game all the celebrations also come with sales. Dying Light is discounted by 64 percent on PlayStation 4 and 67 percent on Steam. For those who prefer Steam the game is even having a free weekend right now, so you can try before you buy, legally this time.

If you’ve already played way too many hours of this game, as we have, Dying Light 2 is slated for release later this year.
