With four units back online, Eskom doesn’t expect loadshedding for Monday

Last week Eskom was forced to implement loadshedding after three generating units went offline.

The situation seemed to devolve quickly however with two more units failing on Friday forcing Eskom to announce that loadshedding would feature for the entire weekend.

However at 17:00 on Saturday, Eskom suspended loadshedding and didn’t implement power cuts on Sunday either.

That trend with Eskom stating on Sunday that no loadshedding was expected for Monday.

“With the planned return of four generation units, as well as adequate emergency reserves, Eskom does not expect to implement rotation loadshedding tomorrow,” the utility said in a Power Alert.

“The generation system held up sufficiently during the weekend helping us to avoid implementing loadshedding on Sunday,” Eskom added.

Of course, Eskom has warned customers that loadshedding can be implemented at short notice should there be major changes in the performance of the generation system.

For now however, charge up your battery banks and enjoy the cool breeze of your fan/aircon. As Eskom proved last week, the situation can change at any moment.
