New Star Wars properties to explore 200 years before prequel trilogy

If you’re sick of Star Wars movies but still need your fix of the galaxy far, far away, you may be interested in a new set of books coming soon called The High Republic.

As you may have guessed by the name (and our headline), The High Republic takes place long before the movies do – some 200 years before The Phantom Menace.

“This period on the Star Wars timeline will not overlap any of the filmed features or series currently planned for production, giving creators and partners a vast amount of room to tell Star Wars stories with new adventures and original characters,” the announcement reads.

Like with most big Star Wars media pushes like this, The High Republic won’t take just one form. Regular books, young adult stories, childrens’ books and comics are all planned. Authors Cavan Scott, Charles Soule, Claudia Gray, Daniel José Older and Justina Ireland have all been named as working on projects within this universe.

Several of these books being worked on by these authors have had their covers shared, which you can view in the gallery below:

As for when you’ll be able to actually read these books, only a date for Light of the Jedi shown above has been provided. It will debut at Star Wars Celebration Anaheim in August of this year, and it’s also up for pre-order here with a 25th August release date.

Strangely enough, while the focus here is on books, Disney has released a trailer for The High Republic.

It shows some interesting behind the scenes stuff but you may want to avoid if you plan on going into the books completely blind. While there aren’t any real spoilers, it does reveal some information you may want to discover on the pages instead of in a video. Maybe watch it with the sound off to see some of the interesting concept art.
