The X-T4 is Fujifilm’s latest mirrorless digital camera

In recent weeks Fujifilm has been revealing some of its new camera offerings for 2020, and this week is no different as the Japanese camera maker revealed the new X-T4 digital mirrorless camera.

The Fujifilm X-T4 is now the company’s latest flagship camera within the X series, and to that end sports a number of improvements over its impressive predecessor, including in-body stabilisation, a redesigned shutter, faster AF, as well as enhanced video recording and battery life.

In terms of what’s on offer, the X-T4 is sporting a new sensor and processor. The former is a 21.6MP CMOS sensor and the latter is the X-Processor 4 image processing engine.

While the new specifications for handling imaging are welcome, it is the in-body image stabilisation that is perhaps the best element on offer for the X-T4, with 5-axis, 6.5 stop image stabilisation available.

This is the same kind of system employed by the Fujifilm X-H1 professional camera, all while utilising a 30 percent smaller and 20 percent lighter imaging unit than that model.

Switching to the video recording capabilities, the X-T4 can muster up to 4K at 60fps. Added to this is the ability to port video output to an external storage device for 4K (60fps) video recording at 4:2:2 10bit, which is designed to capture more colour while shooting video.

There is also the ability to save video content to two SD cards simultaneously to ensure your backups are taking care of.

As for the battery life, a new NP-W235 battery with a capacity of approximately 1.5 times that of the older model is powering the X-T4. According to Fujifilm this yields up to 500 frames per charge in normal mode and 600 frames in eco mode, but it is more difficult to gauge the battery life while recording video in higher resolutions.

So when can you buy the new X-T4 mirrorless camera? Fujifilm SA does not have a definitive launch date, but it is expected to be available locally by the end of April. In terms of pricing, no official RRP is know either, but it is predicted to cost in the region of R26 000 for the body only, and R31 000 for a lens kit option.

For now we have not spotted the Fujfilm X-T4 up for pre-order on any local camera sites, but that should change in the coming weeks.
