LG debuts V60 5G phone alongside another Dual Screen

The fact that Mobile World Congress has been cancelled has thrown the usual smartphone unveiling schedule out of whack. Nevertheless this has not stopped the likes of Huawei and Sony from debuting new mobile hardware. Following them is LG which revealed the new V60 5G smartphone.

As with most new LG devices of late, the V60 5G is sporting all the components you expect of an Android flagship phone, along with the South Korean firm’s more recent trend of pairing it with a Dual Screen accessory.

As we saw with the G8X ThinQ recently, adding a Dual Screen to the mix is LG’s cheaper take on foldable phones, and clearly a tactic it is set to continue into 2020.

Shifting back to the V60 5G, the new device is sporting a large 6.8″ P-OLED display up front (2460×1080) and a minimal bezel design to support the in-display fingerprint sensor. Added to this is Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 865 processor to do the heavy lifting, which is paired with the X55 5G modem to support the mobile broadband standard.

There’s also 8GB of RAM on offer, and the choice of 128GB or 256GB of internal storage. On the photography side of things a trio of lenses is on the rear – 64MP primary, 13MP super wide and a ToF camera for depth-sensing. Up front a 10MP selfie camera can be found.

One interesting element is a massive 5 000mAh battery on the V60 5G, which is designed to power the Dual Screen when attached. Speaking of which a 6.8″ display is present to match up with the V60 and a 2.1″ cover display to handle notifications.

Whether LG has offered better optimisation in terms of multitasking for the Dual Screen remains to be seen.

For now it’s unclear when it will land in South Africa, as well as how much it will cost.
