Spotify has given its UI a design overhaul on mobile

If you open up Spotify on mobile, there are going to be a few changes that you’ll want to get familiar with. The music streaming service recently detailed a few design changes it has made to the mobile version of the platform, starting on iOS devices and planned to port over to Android ones later.

There are specifically three changes that Spotify users need to get a handle of, with the first being a simplified and “universal” shuffle play button. The new layout is simple enough, with one button featuring the shuffle icon too.

The next is a new row of action icons, which include most elements of the Spotify experience, such as playing music and downloading (Premium users only). The firm adds that the download icon for listening to music when WiFi is not available has been been changed to match that of the Podcast one.

The new action row is also said to make one-handed use of the streaming service easier, but we’re yet to test out that claim.

The final change is one that many users may have already seen, and that is cover art for songs appearing in playlists.

This is something we spotted on the Android version of the app a couple of weeks ago, and Spotify explains that feature is available in all views expect Album views. Songs which have been like will also show the green heart icon in this new layout.

This design refresh is rolling out to iOS users this week, having started yesterday. No word on Android just yet, but the fact that cover art is also available, should mean that the rest is not that far off.
