No loadshedding today but outages have increased

Eskom has this morning said that it doesn’t expect to implement loadshedding but the possibility of it has increased.

The utility issued a Power Alert on Monday morning warning that some generation units tripped unexpectedly overnight. This has lead to a reduction in available capacity.

“We are utilising more emergency reserves than initially planned to supplement supply. However, some generation units are planned to return to service today and tomorrow. This will improve the power system outlook for this week and help reduce the possibilty of loadsheddding,” said Eskom.

As of 07:20 on Monday morning, unplanned breakdowns or outages sat at 13 804MW while planned maintenance outages sat at 6 511MW.

Eskom has urged South Africans to use power sparingly as a way to assist with reducing the demand for electricity.

As always we will provide you with updates should the situation regarding loadshedding change.
