Apple iPads and HP desktops are reportedly in short supply due to coronavirus spread

The knock on effects of factories being closed and travel being suspended as the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) spreads are starting to be felt.

Following weeks of warnings that some products may be in short supply, those warnings have seemingly borne fruit.

A report by Bloomberg reveals that Apple’s iPad Pro tablet is currently seeing limited availability in the US, Australia and Europe. The publication also notes that AirPods Pro, built-to-order Macs and Apple Watch Series 3 and Series 5 are experiencing shipping delays or are simply unavailable to purchase online.

Some locations in Europe and Australia are showing the iPhone 11 as unavailable.

In addition to Apple, Bloomberg has found it tough to find HP Envy, Pavilion and Slim desktops. The company’s Sprocket mobile photo printers are also out of stock.

While this could simply be a case of firms not having stock at certain outlets, it’s hard to ignore the potential impact that COVID-19 has had.

The outbreak occurred during Lunar New Year and as such factories were closed. Add to that the fact many factory workers were quarantined upon returning to work and you have a perfect storm.

Apple noted this in investor guidance for March stating that supply shortages would affect revenue worldwide.

Bloomberg also added that Facebook’s Oculus Rift S has become unavailable in the past few days and that the social network is preparing for COVID-19 related disruptions.

“Like other companies, we’re expecting some additional impact to our hardware production due to the Coronavirus,” Facebook told Bloomberg.

“We’re taking precautions to ensure the safety of our employees, manufacturing partners and customers, and are monitoring the situation closely,” it concluded.
