Huawei’s Y7p which sports HMS lands in SA for just R3 499

Those looking for an affordable smartphone and willing to test out Huawei’s Huawei Mobile Services, may be excited to hear about the latest device landing in South Africa.

The Huawei Y7p is billed as having features often seen in a premium smartphone, but at the affordable price of R3 499. While the device is still using Android as a base operating system, Huawei uses its own mobile services rather than Google Mobile Services.

While the camera does seemingly back up the promise of premium-esque features, the internals leave a lot to be desired. This mainly because of the memory and storage available to the Y7p. There is 4GB of memory which is okay but may prove frustrating for multi-taskers and a paltry 64GB of on-board storage.

Thankfully, there is space for a microSD card but only up to a capacity of 512GB.

It’s not bad but it’s not the best especially when you take into account that the camera is rather capacity hungry.

The rear snapper contains three sensors. These include:

  • 48MP sensor with a wide-aperture lens,
  • 8MP Super Wide Angle sensor
  • 2MP Depth Assist camera

You are also able to shoot video at 480 frames were second which should make for some sexy slow-motion video.

The front facing camera support Huawei’s Face Unlock 2.0 which can unlock your handset in 0.4 seconds.

Huawei’s AI Scene recognition is also present to insure your snaps always look pristine.

Keeping this chugging along is a massive 4 000mAh battery and the 6.39 inch display has an HD resolution of 1560×720.

As mentioned, the Huawei Y7p is available for R3 499 from operators and retailers.

As this is the first Huawei device running HMS in SA, Huawei will have a free unboxing service at 150 malls to help folks get acquainted with the new Huawei AppGallery and HMS in general.

Customers can also contact a hotline on 086 086 1111 for any queries they have about HMS, the AppGallery or any other Huawei Y7p questions they may have.
