Some systems restored following incident at Eskom data centre

Had a breakdown at Koeberg Unit 1 not been enough for Eskom this week, things got worse for the utility on Wednesday morning.

Eskom has said that it continues to implement its business continuity plans following an incident at its data centre on Wednesday at 05:00.

The business continuity plan has insured minimal disruptions to operations and customers.

“It is estimated that the system will be fully operation within the next 48 hours. The teams have worked through the night and some of the critical systems have restored,” Eskom wrote in a statement.

The specifics of the incident were not disclosed.

The utility has said that customers are able to log faults with its call centres but the system is slower than usual. Unfortunately some services are still not available including commercial queries through the call centre and all of Eskom’s self-service channels including CS Online and the MyEskom Customer App.

“Eskom assures all South Africans that the power stations and national control are not impacted by this incident,” wrote the utility.

In terms of loadshedding, Eskom has said that Stage 4 loadshedding is in effect until at least Friday. While the faulty pump at Koeberg has been repaired, Eskom requires regulatory approval to connect the nuclear power station back to the grid.

Loadshedding is expected to last into the weekend.
