Microsoft Teams now boasts 44 million daily active users

As employees move to work remotely, software that assists with helping teams communicate is proving to be rather popular.

For instance Microsoft Teams, the instant messaging app integrated with Microsoft Office 365, has seen a spike in activity.

“We have seen an unprecedented spike in Teams usage, and now have more than 44 million daily users, a figure that has grown by 12 million in just the last seven days,” wrote Microsoft 365 corporate vice president, Jared Spataro.

Microsoft Teams now boasts more than 44 million daily users.

This week alone users have generated 900 million meeting and calling minutes each day.

“It’s very clear that enabling remote work is more important than ever, and that it will continue to have lasting value beyond the COVID-19 outbreak. We are committed to building the tools that help organizations, teams, and individuals stay productive and connected even when they need to work apart,” said Spataro.

In something of a bizarre coincidence, this week also marks the third anniversary of Microsoft Teams.

The platform is available in 181 markets and in 53 languages. What’s more is that 93 of the Fortune 100 companies use Microsoft Teams.

Microsoft yesterday announced that it would grant individuals a Microsoft Teams license for free through January 2021.

You can find details for how to take up that offer here.

As for Microsoft Teams competitor Slack, the service hasn’t released any new figures regarding daily active users. In October 2019, Slack reportedly boasted more than 12 million daily active users according to Business Insider.

Shifting from business to education for a moment, Discord recently made changes to its service.

The Go Live feature was – until recently – limited to 10 viewers at a time. Amid the growing pandemic however, Discord opted to increase this to 50 so that teachers can make use of Discord to host classes. There’s even a handy guide on the Discord blog for teachers in need of a remote teaching solution.
