Cell C doubles available data on its All-In-One bundles during SA lockdown

As most of South Africa adheres to the new lockdown regulations, which went into effect last week, in a bid to flatten the curve for COVID-19 in the country, many people are being put under stain from the increased need for connectivity and associated data costs.

We’ve seen some ISPs answer this need by increasing line speed, and now local network Cell C has announced some data changes that could offer its users some respite at this time.

To that end the network is doubling the amount of data allocated to its All-In-One bundles when users choose to purchase data.

These data changes take effect from today (31st March) and run until 17th April, the network confirms, adding that it is applicable to both its pre-paid and Top-Up customers. It also points out that while data is doubling during this period, allocated minutes remains the same.

The table below provides a snapshot of the changes that Cell C is bringing to the fore.

Description All-In-One 30MB All-In-One 120MB All-In-One 300MB
Bundle Fee incl. VAT R5 R15 R35
Validity Period (days) 1 14 30
Data (MB) Was: 30MB
Now: 60MB
Was: 120MB
Now: 240MB
Was: 300MB
Now: 600MB
On-net Minutes 30 300 600
Any-net Minutes 5 10 20

While is it pleasing to see Cell C take steps to help its customers, it does feel like more can be done during this time.

In the UK for example, its government and networks came to an agreement to raise the data caps for all customers. At the time of writing, it does not appear as if any similar actions are being taken, which now places more pressure on those working from home in particular.

Hopefully Cell C and other networks have more plans in the pipeline to assist customers during the lockdown.
