Facebook testing feature for cross-posting to Instagram

Instagram, which is owned by Facebook, is clearly the company’s hottest commodity when it comes to social media platforms. It should come as no surprise then that the firm is looking to leverage that popularity by testing out a new cross-posting feature.

As such it would allow users to cross-post Stories to Instagram when they are publishing them on Facebook. When creating a Story in Facebook, there will be an option to cross-post to Instagram, which should also facilitate syncing of views to ensure feeds don’t get cluttered with content that needs to be re-watched.

There is also the ability to set privacy parameters for the post, and select specifically what kind of Instagram audience will be able to view it, according to an image posted to Twitter by noted reverse-engineer expert Jane Manchun Wong.

Only a handful of users have been given access to the feature, so it is still to be determined whether it will see a fully fledged rollout, but those managing multiple social media accounts will likely look forward to using cross-posting.

It would mean less time being allocated to re-creating Stories on both platforms.

Another potential upshot of this feature is the fact that more content will be heading to Instagram. While this can lead to clutter on the platform, it does mean that the algorithm that serves up content curated for you will have more to choose from.

That said, one of the best things about Instagram is that it has been able to remain relatively separated from Facebook, despite the latter owning the former. Whether that will change moving forward remains to be seen.

Either way there are some interesting developments on the way for both platforms.
