HBO’s Chernobyl creator to work on The Last of Us show

Well here’s a very welcome bit of news in the hit or miss world of videogame adaptations: the The Last of Us will be turned into a series on HBO with some series talent behind the scenes.

First up is Craig Mazin who is the creator and writer for the Chernobyl miniseries which also aired on HBO last year. If you were somehow under a rock in the last few months (or maybe a bunker) this show was highly praised by just about everyone, and for good reason. Seriously, if you haven’t watched it go and do that now.

If you’re returning after having your socks blown off the second name here is Neil Druckmann, who is a vice president at developer Naughty Dog. Druckmann has writing and directing credits on various Naughty Dog titles including The Last of Us.

“Carolyn Strauss will also executive produce along with Evan Wells, president of Naughty Dog, the Santa Monica-based developer of the game. The project is a co-production with Sony Pictures Television in association with PlayStation Productions. It will be the first television series from PlayStation Productions,” writes Hollywood Reporter, which was given exclusive access to this news.

Unfortunately, at the moment anyway, there’s no word on when we’ll be able to watch this new show. The Last of Us Part II is scheduled for a 29th May release, so around then would be a good time to announce more content from this franchise. Maybe we’ll get a surprise drop where the series is suddenly available without any prior notice.

As for other official content in these early days HBO has released a short video which is embedded below. Again, there’s not much to look at here.
