Sea of Thieves sets sale for Steam complete with crossplay

After previously being exclusive to the Xbox One and the Microsoft Store on PC, Sea of Thieves is making its way to Steam.

Some time in the future the game, which is only listed as “Coming Soon” on its store page, will finally be available on another platform.

Making the news even better is the fact that crossplay support will mean that all players of the game, regardless of platform or choice of store, will be able to get into the high seas hijinks.

“If you’re seeking the full, glorious sweep of the pirate life, you can dive head-first into Adventure mode where you’re sure to find a wealth of secrets and plunder, guarded by more enemies than you can shake a blunderbuss at. For those looking for a more PvP (Pirate versus Pirate) experience, the Sea Dogs are waiting in The Arena, where you can test your skill against other aspiring champion,” reads a release from Craig Duncan, studio head at developer Rare.

Those who played this game near launch (or simply read the reviews about it) may remember that this wasn’t the best experience out there. The general and biggest complaint was a lack of things to do a generally hollow experience.

We’ve been keeping one eye on the community since then and it seems that, after all this time and continuous work from the devs, Sea of Thieves is in a much better place and offers up a compelling experience.

It’s because of this that we’ve seen some players really take to playing the game as a hobby. Some of those dedicated fans have created dozens of 3D prints and even signing skulls.

Aside from the launch date being a mystery we also don’t know what price will be attached to the game. Right now, on PC for the Anniversary Edition , the game can be played for free with an active Game Pass subscription, or bought outright for R699. Game Pass subscribers have that price slightly discounted to R559.20. Hopefully the Steam version comes with a lower price and / or more favourable regional pricing.
