Ahead of the national lockdown, MultiChoice announced that it would make certain channels available to stream for free via DStv Now.
At the time, MultiChoice only offered up BBC World, CNN, eNCA, Newzroom Afrika, Euronews Now, Channel O, PBS for Kids, SuperSport Play and TBN for free streaming.
However, as the situation has worsened since that announcement, MultiChoice is opening up a few more channels for free streaming through DStv Now.
“We’re extremely grateful to all of the channel providers for being so willing to work with us to help all South Africans through this unprecedented lockdown period. Thanks to their support we’re able to keep people informed, keep kids’ educations going, and keep people entertained,” said chief executive officer of MultiChoice’s connected video division, Niclas Ekdahl.
Among the channels being added to the free offering is Mindset PoP.
The channel features educational programming covering general education and training as well as early childhood development. The channel also has a focus on content for learners in grades 4 – 9.
“Mindset PoP will deliver live lessons daily, with six fresh hours every day. A website is available for parents to download worksheets and information sheets to work through with expert teachers. Lessons are based on the South African Curriculum Assessment Policy Statements (CAPS) and are also aligned to the Cambridge curriculum,” says MultiChoice.

MultiChoice reports that usage of DStv Now has increased by 20 percent and peak usage is up 80 percent.
