htxt.africast – Working from home and Syntech’s face mask initiative

It’s another week of lockdown but we’re bringing you the africast regardless, still recorded remotely of course. We’re responsible podcasters here.

First up this week is some quick news stories starting with the fact that Eskom is using this rare opportunity of decreased grid load to do some maintenance. Next up is yet another local university – Unisa – experiencing a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) case. Lastly it’s the scum of the internet creating fake Zoom URLs to try to trap those looking to use the service.

Our big discussion this week is centred around working from home as many South Africans, and much of the rest of the world, are being forced to make this change in light of the recent pandemic.

We cover all aspects of it including making the change yourself, some useful tips and tools, and some of the benefits companies can look forward to. Going into the future we even touch on how this may forever change the nature of the work force, and maybe for the better.

Finally, and maybe most importantly this week, is an interview with co-founder at local Syntech, Ryan Martyn. We find out how the company is helping with the COVID-19 problem by organising face mask donations and how you can get involved. These masks are one of the biggest shortages when it comes to important medical gear during this time.
